Thomas Sly, Salisbury
Thomas Sly was born in Devizes on the 26th May 1831. In 1851 his occupation was given as a Watchmaker having gone into partnership with George Leach in Blue Boar Row and in 1858 he took over the business. He was married in Trowbridge in 1861 and was described in the register as a Clock and Watchmaker. In 1891, he was recorded as living in Endless Street, although the business remained in Blue Boar Row. He died on the 30th November 1909.
This very attractive clock is 33" tall and has a visible dial of 8" diameter. The case is of polished walnut. The dial has both a moon phase and calendar feature, and the eight day movement strikes the hours on a bell, and also strikes on the half-hour.
