William Lane, Calstone
William Lane, Calstone
William Lane made clocks signed both Calstone and Calne from around 1750 until he died on the 17th June 1787. Some of his children died of smallpox and their burials are recorded in the Calne parish registers. At least one musical longcase bears his name.
This small clock has a 10 inch square brass dial, a single hand and a calendar function above the VI. The good birdcage movement with turned brass columns strikes the hours on a bell. The case is ebonised and has a long trunk door. There are shaped integral columns to the hood and blind fretwork above the hood door.
Overall height is 79"
