Thomas Fitz, Salisbury
Thomas Fitz was born in 1768 and was apprenticed to Francis Shuttleworth in about 1780. He was described as a Watchmaker in a trade directory in 1793. He was married to Charlotte Carpenter at St. Edmund's church in 1792. He succeeded Shuttleworth inBlue Boar Row in 1792.
In 1796 and 1797 he and is wife paid for an annual certificate for the Hair Powder Tax either because they wore powdered wigs or dressed their hair with it.
He died, aged 74 in Romsey in 1842.
This clock has a 12" diameter circular silvered dial. The movement is of eight days' duration and strikes the hours on a bell. The hood has reeded and canted corners and has three brass finials atop.
The mahogany case is seven feet (84") tall
