John Stratton, Devizes

John Stratton is listed as working in the Market Place in Devizes in 1830.

Not rare, but unusual for this area, but seen before by this maker, a circular dial oak longcase.

The dial is silvered and engraved with Roman numerals for the hours.

What is really unusual is that this clock does not strike and was never intended to and runs for a full eight days. An ideal clock for those worried about being disturbed by a longcase's striking.

The case is made of oak with separate reeded columns to the hood.

Overall height is 83"
