George Hewett, Marlborough
George Hewett was born in about 1733 and took over the business of William Gough in 1757. He married in 1757. He is certainly one of the most famous and accomplished Wiltshire makers producing organ clocks, clocks with automata and astronomical clocks.
This handsome oak-cased clock has the phases of the moon in the 12″ brass dial arch. The dial features both seconds and calendar and has an engraved centre. The case hood has side windows and an arched trunk door.
The hour-striking movement is of eight day duration. The overall height is 92.5″ (2.35m)
