Samuel Ferris, Calne

Samuel was born in 1850, son of David and Ann Ferris, David having also been a clock and watchmaker. Samuel worked as a watchmaker in his father’s business which he took over in 1890 upon his father’s death. The shop was in Church Street in a part later to be demolished for the Harris factory. Samuel died in 1931 aged 81.

This is a very neat and compact dial clock, the dial being just 8″ in diameter, overall 10.5″, and the wooden surround and pegged back box are made of oak .
