Abraham Vincent, Bath

Abraham Vincent, Bath

Abraham Vincent was born in Bath in 1792 and died in 1852. He was listed as a watchmaker at 22, Vineyards from 1819, then at 5, Cleveland Terrace from 1837.

This clock dates from around 1845. The overall height to the top of the central brass finial is 84″ (2.13m). The mahogany case is of “West Country” style,  with, in this example, turned columns to the hood. The trunk corners are chamfered, and whole case is surmounted by three brass finials.

The 12″ dial is painted with rural scenes – a fox-hunting scene in the arch and rustic cottages in the corners. There is a subsidiary seconds dial and a calendar feature.

The eight day movement strikes a bell on the hour.
