Thomas Wentworth, Sarum

Thomas Wentworth, Sarum (Salisbury)

This clock is by the Thomas Wentworth who was born in 1678 and died in 1769.

The Wentworths were an important clock and watchmaking family in Salisbury over a period of 100 years or so, and there were eight members who made clocks, four of whom were called Thomas.

The twelve inch dial is well engraved around the outside of the dial plate, and the good quality five pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell.

The clock dates from the first part of the eighteenth century.

The case is of typical Salisbury area style and is of deep oak colour and is 80” tall.
