Charles
Raymond, Lydeway: This antique clock was made by Charles Raymond of Lydeway
near Devizes around 1775. Charles Raymond is known for his brass dial 30-hour
clocks in cases of a similar style. This clock is a rare example of his work due
to it being of eight day duration. The brass 12”-dial is beautifully and unusually
engraved in both red and black (a characteristic of Raymond dials), and also features
a seconds dial and calendar aperture. The oak case has a caddy top and fretwork
above the hood door. The eight-day movement has a strike repeat mechanism, and
strikes the hours on a bell The overall height of this clock is 6' 7". |
