William Raymond, Calne

William Raymond, Calne

This clock was made by William Raymond of Calne in the last quarter of the eighteenth century and is a rare example of his work.

William was one of the Lydeway Raymonds and this clock bears the family’s style features.

The eight day movement strikes on the hour and 12″ dial is beautifully engraved (it must be the same engraver as the Lydeway clocks), with the seconds dial and the typical calendar aperture.

The well-proportioned oak case, with mahogany crossbanding to the trunk door and base, is just about 84″ tall with blind fretwork in the hood.
