John Stratton, Devizes

John Stratton is listed as working in the Market Place in Devizes in 1830.

The dial is fully silvered and beautifully engraved with a picture of a lady, and also features a calendar.

The eight-day movement strikes the hours on a bell.

The West Country mahogany case has fluted columns with Corinthian brass capitals to the hood, and matching quarter columns to the trunk.

The hood door has traditional wavy edging and there is ebony stringing on the case.

To the rear of the case is written “deliver to Mr Stratton, Clock & Watchmaker, Devizes” and this adds nicely to the originality of this elegant clock.

The overall height 7′ 7″.
