George Hewett, Marlborough

This clock dates from around 1760 and is by George Hewitt (or Hewett) senior who was one of the most famous makers in Wiltshire.

The case with integral columns to the hood is a relatively rare survivor being of pine painted to look like mahogany and for its type is in excellent original condition, it is slender, has a long door and has a typical caddy on the hood which is characteristic of period, maker and place.

The thirty hour is of birdcage design with turned brass columns and strikes the hours on a bell.
