Dial of a grandfather clock made by Peter Bower, Redlinch

Peter Bower, Redlinch: This clock dates from around 1750, and is a most unusual Bower clock. The reason for this is that the case is made of solid walnut as opposed to the usual oak, and is spectacularly imposing but still of the particularly slender proportions characteristic of Bower. This must have been made as a "special". The image shows the case without its original caddy, which is detachable. There is the typical Bower fretwork in the hood. Most of Bower's clocks had 9" or 10" square dials but this clock has a 12" arched dial. The clock is fitted with an eight day movement which strikes the hours every hour. The overall height of the clock as shown is 91.5". Now Sold
